Message-ID: <5256d0b0911010912u4fff0cb1l35b9232eba6606ee@mail.gmail.com> Hi All, The company I work for uses a number of Fortinet devices. I sent off a letter as described in in their code request page back in April. I've since tried to contact them via their contacts page and have received no response. It seems that gpl-violations.org originally bought the case [2] against Fortinet so I just thought I would let you know that there may be issues again. Cheers, Peter [1] http://www.fortinet.com/press_releases/gpl.html [2] http://www.fortinet.com/press_releases/050425_gpl.html From andrew at ado.is-a-geek.net Wed Nov 11 13:21:57 2009 From: andrew at ado.is-a-geek.net (andrew at ado.is-a-geek.net) Date: Wed, 11 Nov 2009 12:21:57 -0000 Subject: AzBox (PVR) kernel sources Message-ID: I've bought an AzBox set top box from goldwafers.com. There was no documentation (printed or on disk) with the device. The box is fairly open - you can enable telnet or ssh from the user interface and get a root shell on the box. From here it is fairly easy to look at what software is on the box. I emailed info at azbox.com to ask if sources were available and was directed to http://www.azbox.com/forum (requires registration to see anything). The build scripts download source from an ftp site to build a simple userland. I've made a request for kernel sources in the forum and have not received any response. I'm not sure what to do now, I imagine that OpenSAT (STB manufacturer) don't really have any objections to releasing the source - the product is fairly easy to modify by design, however I believe Sigma Designs (chip manufacturer, owner of drivers etc) are likely to cause them trouble. Any suggestions where to go from here? Any questions? Message-ID: <4B0D3797.7070606@weltfremd.at> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello all, some days ago i found a imaging backup solution from Acronis Inc. (www.acronis.com) which includes a special rescue system to boot from a CD, Acronis TrueImage (Home/Netbook/Workstation...what ever..). I've never used that rescue system until 6 weeks ago. The Rescue System uses busybox v1.13.4 (as given in the console) with dhclient, samba-client and some other stuff... I checked the supplied documentation and the wrapping of that product but i cant find any hints regarding the GPL/LGPL so i've examined there homepage and i found this licensing part: ___________________________________________________ Licensing information Acronis has the following GPL/LGPL sources used in our products: * Linux software (used on the rescue media); the GPL license. * Fox (a graphical library, used in all our products); the LGPL license. * "Mouse" driver (a DOS driver used by Acronis OS Selector); the GPL license. * UPX (The Ultimate Packer for eXecutables); the UPX License Agreement. If you want to receive the appropriate source code for the software listed above, please submit a request to Acronis Technical Support. ___________________________________________________ http://www.acronis.com/support/licensing/ This licensing info is also pretty good hidden, i just found it via the search term GPL in the search window. So i contacted the support via there request system last month to obtain these sources, but i didn't get any answer so far. 1. As far as i know a copy of the gpl must be shipped with the product, but thats definitely not the case here. 2. I dont know if its legitimate to put the whole kernel stuff, busybox, the dhcp and samba parts just under the licensing-term "Linux software". 3. I dont have direct access to those sources, it depends on the willingness of the support-worker whether i'll get those or not, and at the moment i'm waiting about 4 weeks to get an answer. Can someone advise me what i should do next?
