I understand what you are saying, but the reality is that there may be
many different licenses involved. As a matter of fact, this has been the
subject of recent debate over at Joomla, specifically in relation to
commercial software or "modules/extensions" being used with Joomla.
One of the primary ideas of Open Source software is just this, that the
SOURCE is open and available for anybody to look at. You should be able
to download open source software, look at the code itself, and clearly
see which license it is distributed under.
