Yes, possibly.

If they give you the run around, you should expect to have to find some 
kind of firmer proof - for example, there's bound to be a connection 
somewhere on the device mainboard that is essentially a serial port, 
which is likely to echo linux boot messages, or a firmware download from 
Kyocera's website that contains the software.

You should be aware that if Kyocera consider the software (or part of 
it) to be owned by them, your possession of them and efforts in 
examining them could be considered illegal given the route you say you 
received the software, depending on the country you are in.
