Hi! I recently bought a Jobo GVPE:

http://blog.josefsson.org/2007/04/14/jobo-giga-vu-pro-evolution-80gb/

The manual says GPL software is used, and that source is available upon
request (I sent a mail requesting it), see also (at the bottom of) the
'service' homepage:

http://jobo.com/jobo_service/digital/files/giga_vu_pro_e/index.html

They replied to me a few days ago, and send me the source code. It
appears that the same source code package is available on the web site
as well, which is good.

However, there are no instructions in the source code package, so I
started analysing the hardware from another angle. The conclusion is
that the device contains several other GPL'd software packages, for
which source code where not provided. My analysis is available:

http://blog.josefsson.org/2007/04/27/hacking-jobo-device/

And for reference I'm including the writeup below.

I'm writing this to possibly get into contact with others who also own
this device (or the earlier Jobo GVP) to exchange information. I'm also
wondering what my next step should be? Should I contact Jobo again and
ask why not all source code is included?

My goal is ultimately to be able to run Debian on the device, but my
first priority is to be able to ssh into the device and play music etc
on it.

/Simon
