The firmware is here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download_item.aspx?product=11&model=WL-500gP&SLanguage=en-us

You go to their download section, and selection the WL-500gP, and it will 
present you with download options.

Further digging reveals they do have the source code for the 1.9.6.9 version, 
but don't have the 1.9.7.0 version up yet.  Click on "All" at the previous 
URL to see all downloads.

So, I guess it was a false call on my part.  I apologize.
